acne meds
chocolate_krys2000 asked:

I am currenty on Adoxa, and I was actually expecting some instantneous face transformation…. nothing so far. On top of this, I am also using retin A at night. For anyone who has been on an acne regimen, tell me, how long until you saw results? and what was your regimen?

I used retin-a too, my face became super bad for about a month! I broke out so much more than I used to. It was so sick. By the middle of the second month, it started to clear up, but I was still stuck with redness and more post hyperpigmentation. On the bright side… there were no scarring.

I hope you don’t have plans on Valentine’s because the first few weeks of treatment really sucks.

Hey Sweeite, wish I had a good answer for you. A lot of it depends on your skin type, your hormones, and time. My daughter is in the same situation…only we can’t afford to go to a dermatologist. She sent for one of the meds touted by the ‘stars’ to clean up her skin. It is supposed to be guaranteed to work within 2 weeks, but she used it faithfully for 6 wks. and saw no improvement. One of the nurses I work with told me to try 6oz of pure aloe vera gel mixed with 3 drops of tea tree oil. Used after cleansing skin at night, it should be put on the face like a thin mask, and allowed to dry. Wash it gently in the morning. It has worked better for her than anything else she’s tried. If you decide to try it, be sure to keep it in the fridge after you make it. I made hers up in a small 1 cup butter container. If it irritates your skin, try using it every other day til you get used to it. If you begin to see improvement, you may increase to 6 drops, but I wouldn’t go much stronger. Hope this helps!

The Adoxa you take is an antibiotic that helps kill the bacteria P. acnes which cause acne. The Retin A you use helps with the inflammation and with exfoliation. Improvement with Retin A (alone) can be seen within 6 weeks with the maximum effect coming after 3-4 months. With oral antibiotics the maximum effect is normally seen within 6-10 months. Chances are that within a few weeks of use, but not instantly.
