i had an allergic reaction to something in the product(s), so it did not work for me. it caused my face to swell so badly that my eyes were slits, and it took a course of oral steroids to make the swelling go down. i tried it based on the advice of several friends who swear by it, so the reaction may be unique to me. i recommend that you add one product into your routine at a time and test it overnight on a small part of your face just in case…the allergic reaction was not pleasant
the murad system’s active ingredient in salicylic acid, which can be found in other, less expensive products. other products, such as proactiv, use benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. there seems to be anecdotal evidence that benzoyl perozide works for some people and salicylic acid works for others. apparently, one or the other will work for everyone. some people claim that benzoyl peroxide is old-fashioned and does not work, but the research does not back that up. others claim that benzoyl peroxide is unsafe in any concetration, but that is false based on the research i have done.
i alternate between salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide spot treatments from the clean & clear brand to try to get the best of both worlds
i think the benzoyl peroxide product works better for me. after the allergy incident, i have learned to start small with new products. hope this helps!
