Hormones do play a role in acne. Testosterone will make it worse, which explains why teenage boys in general have worse acne than girls, when their hormones are surging. Women’s hormonal fluctuations can cause outbreaks too, as evidenced by more acne appearing around the menstrual cycle. If a hormonal imbalance is suspected, an endocrinologist should be consulted.

They play a big role. Some hormones control sebum production, and when you have too much sebum that gets caught in a collapsed skin cell without air, the p. acne bacteria on your skin rapidly grow and you get acne. Controlling your sebum is, in my opinion, the best way to treat acne, unless you only have a small number of zits.
Don’t forget, that foods can affect hormones, carbs much more than anything else. If you have oily skin and think hormones might be responsible, try reducing carb intake.
